Introduction

Shandong University is one of the oldest and prestigious universities in China. Shandong University was founded in 1901 and is the second national university established soon after Jingshi University (the Metropolitan University) in the country. Recently, the Ministry ofEducation approved the university as a “national key comprehensive university.” In 2001, it was listed among the 21 national key construction first-class universities by the Ministry of Education.

Situated in Jinan, capital city of Shandong Province, Shandong University covers an area of 3.8 square kilometers. The province is located on the east coastal part of China and the lower reach of Yellow River. Not only is it one of the most economically developed coastal provinces in China, but also a major contributor to the ancient Chinese culture—the auspicious birthplace of Qilu culture

Schools

Shandong University consists of 30 colleges and a graduate school. Courses are offered in 9 main academic disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, literature, history, natural sciences, engineering, management, and medicine. There are 93 undergraduate degree programs, 199 master degree programs, 118 doctoral degree programs, and 9 post-doctorate mobile stations. In addition, there are 7 professional master's degree programs in law, business management, engineering, clinical medicine, public health, dentistry and public administration respectively. The student population totals to about 90,000, of which 45,000 are fulltime students, 10,000 are postgraduate students, and nearly 1,000 are international students.

MBBS (5 year of Medical Education)

The five years of systemic medical education will provide the students with the knowledge, skill and attitudes necessary for the medical practice. There are 51 compulsory courses that are classified into three kinds: natural and social sciences, basic medical sciences and clinical medical sciences.
The natural and social sciences including Mathematics, Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Cell Biology, English, Morals and Law, Culture and Traditional Literature. These courses will tell the student some basic knowledge of the nature and the society.

The basic medical sciences consist of the Human Anatomy (including the Systemic Anatomy and Local Anatomy), Histology and Embryology, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medical Microbiology, Medical Immunology, Human Parasitology, Pathophysiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Medical Psychology, Medical Genetics, Medical Ethics, Preventive Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Science of Operation, Image Medicine, Diagnosis. These courses provide the student with basic knowledge of the structure and function of the human body, the causes and development of the disease, the basic technique for the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases.

The clinical medical sciences including the Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Neurology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Dermatology. Besides learning the clinical sciences, the student will work as intern in the hospital. During the training as an intern, the student will take part in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The student will combine everything he learned in the Medical School during the training of the clinical practice.

Besides the 51 compulsory courses, there are more than 50 selective courses. These courses are designed for students to broaden and deepen their knowledge of the natural and social sciences, basic medical sciences, clinical sciences and techniques. They will also give the student some basics about the medical research. The students have to study more than 6 of them during the five years of medical education.

50 of the student will specialize in the study of Medical Image during the last two years. Besides the clinical courses, they will study photography, Medical Imageological Technique, Sectional Anatomy, Imageological Diagnosis, Diagnostic Ultrasonography, Radiation Therapeutics, Interventional Radiology.
If the student passes all compulsory and selected course, they will get the degree of MBBS.

Library

The University Library was founded in 1901 .At present , it has a collection of 2.2 million volumes, focusing on literature and history , 70% of which are of liberal arts . As an outstanding feature , the library has a lot of thread bound Chinese ancient books . Science books are mainly on mathematics , physics , chemistry and biology, and books on newly-developed subjects ,such as crystal and microbiology , etc.. The library currently has a staff of 130 and occupies an area of 13,901 square meters .

In recent years, the library has rapidly developed towards modernization . Computers have been used in interviewing, purchasing, cataloguing and circulating. Now, high-level and modern information services have been offered to the readers who can use international on-line searching and CD- ROM to fulfill their needs in teaching and research.

International Co-operation

Shandong University is a higher learning institution open to the world. Over the years, Shandong University has established a broad international network for educational cooperation and has signed exchange agreements with over 70 universities from over 50 countries. The university remains active in academic cooperation and exchanges with over 100 educational and research institutions worldwide. The university becomes an important education base for international students. Since 1980, Shandong University has received over 10,000 students from over 60 countries

Jinan Ciy

Jinan is the capital of Shandong Province in the People's Republic of China. The city is located in north-western Shandong about 400 kilometres (250 mi) south of the national capital of Beijing, it borders Liaocheng to the southwest, Dezhou to the northwest, Binzhou to the northeast, Zibo to the east, Laiwu to the southeast, and Tai'an to the south.

Jinan has a humid subtropical climate with four well-defined seasons. The city is dry and nearly rainless in spring, hot and rainy in summer, crisp in autumn and dry and cold in winter. The average annual temperature is 15.1 °C (59.2 °F), and the annual precipitation is around slightly above 670 millimetres (26.4 in), with a strong summer maximum. January is the coldest and driest month, the mean temperature is 0.0 °C (32.0 °F) and 5.7 millimetres (0.22 in) of equivalent rainfall; snow occasionally falls but rarely in heavy bouts. July is the warmest and wettest month, the corresponding numbers are 27.8 °C (82.0 °F), and 201.3 mm (7.93 in).

In 2005, the estimated population of the entire area under the jurisdiction of Jinan City was 5.69 million, with a total of 2.54 million living in urban areas. By 2009, the total population had grown to about six million. The population is predominantly Han (98.3%), with very small portions of Hui and Manchu Chinese. Jinan has a significant Muslim community centred in the city's Muslim quarter, located to the west of the historical center.
